Berkovic, who made his debut in the 4-2 victory over City last weekend, will operate in a free role behind Yakubu Ayegbeni at the Reebok tomorrow and Redknapp has told his Portsmouth players to give the Israeli international the ball at every opportunity.
"I'm not saying he is Eric Cantona, but Eric Cantona would not charge about all over the pitch," Redknapp said. "You just gave the ball to him and he did special things.
"You have to build a team around Eyal. You have to get people to give him the ball, because he can play better than them."
Pompey have scored only 13 goals away from home -- fewer than any side in the top flight, the Nationwide League or the Conference -- but Berkovic believes that is set to change. "That's why they bought me," the midfielder said. "Hopefully I can start providing the chances for Teddy Sheringham and Yakubu."
Shaka Hislop says the Reebok is the place where Pompey can end their woeful away form.
Wanderers' 4-0 defeat at Fratton Park in August was one of their worst results of the season and Pompey's keeper believes memories of that win can help spark the Blues to their first three points on the road.
"I'm sure they've got their defeat at our place earlier this season firmly in their minds," Hislop said. "We showed at Fratton Park we can match them and are a better footballing team. On our day we can turn them over."
