SHAKERS are set to take on one of their former players and two Wanderers men when they visit Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

Middlesbrough central defender Phil Gulliver, who played 11 games on loan to the Shakers between October and December, has joined the Iron for a month.

Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws has also brought in Jeff Smith and Cleveland Taylor for a month each. Smith is a straight replacement for injured veteran Peter Beagrie while Taylor, a Jamaica under-21 international, will come in for prolific striker Steve MacLean who has a groin injury.

Scunthorpe are on a high after Tuesday night's 2-0 FA Cup third round replay victory over Barnsley -- but have lost their last four league matches. And Shakers boss Graham Barrow wants to see his side build on last Saturday's 2-0 home win over Swansea.

"The big thing is that we start to prove we can put in a performance away from home," he said.

"We know it's going to be a tough game, it always is over there, but we need to start picking up points on our travels too."

Barrow is a fan of Scunthorpe's new signing Smith, a player he recommended when Andy Preece was in charge.

"He's a decent player, lively and a good crosser of the ball, a lot like Harpal Singh," he said.

The only injury worry Barrow has is Tom Kennedy who has been struggling after the atrocious challenge that saw Swansea's Richard Duffy sent off on Saturday.
