VIDEOS produced by bus chiefs in a bid to combat vandalism and Crime will be shown to pupils in schools across Little Hulton.

They will be the first to see the five short videos before they are seen at schools throughout Greater Manchester.

The videos have been produced for Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive following a spate of serious attacks on buses across Little Hulton.

It is hoped the hard-hitting videos will drum home the message to youngsters that vandal attacks on buses leave people who depend on them stranded.

Called A Right of Passage: Tackling Crime against Public Transport, the films use examples and locations from the region to challenge youngsters' attitudes and promote positive experiences of public transport.

They show the effects vandalism has on staff and the impact on users who are are often left stranded when services are withdrawn.

Damian Dallimore, community safety development officer for public transport in Salford, said: "Schools in Little Hulton will be among the first to receive the videos. We will look to get them in as soon as possible."

Councillor Roger Jones, chairman of Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, said: "Studies have shown that the large majority of acts of vandalism are carried out by children of school age and if we are to change these patterns, education is the starting point."

Crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers is also hoping to launch a poster campaign on buses and at bus stops in March.

Mr Dallimore said: "We hope it will have a major affect.

"If a member of the public is on a bus and sees something, they can call the Crimestoppers hotline in confidence and report it.

"We would urge people to come forward."

Night services which were withdrawn from Little Hulton or redirected after vandals pelted buses with bricks and other missiles were reintroduced to the area in November.

Services to the Kenyon Way estate are still off the road after 7pm.
