A MAN broke his leg as he struggled with police after a violent argument with his girlfriend.

John Graithwaite, aged 36, of Hilton Crescent, Prestwich, was at home when he began shouting and swearing. He became violent as he was arrested and placed in a police van, breaking his leg in the process.

At Bury Magistrates Court, he admitted using threatening, abusive words and behaviour likely to cause alarm and distress. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £43 court costs.
