TESCO wants to put up a marquee on its car park at Middlebrook to sell garden plants during the summer.
The company has submitted a planning application to Bolton Council for a marquee measuring 9.15 metres by 9.15 metres and five metres high.
It will sit across eight car parking spaces and will allow the sale of garden plants, shrubs, flowers and gardening equipment.
If the application is granted, the marquee will be in place between March 1 and October 31 for the next five years.
Project manager Dave Edwards said: "We've had four trial marquees across the country and they have all been a great success. Now Tesco has applied to start the scheme in 60 of its stores.
"It will basically offer everything a gardener needs under one roof -- like a mini garden centre."
The application will go before Horwich Town Council on Thursday, then to Bolton Council for a final decision.
