Horwich RMI Harrier Sue Jones finished a superb 13th lady over 40 in the World Triathlon Championships at Queenstown, New Zealand.

At the end of the 1,500m lake swim, 40K cycle and 10K run event she was not only 13th overall, but first GB counter in her age group.

She said: "I was in the best form I could have been considering my lack of running over the season and I enjoyed the whole experience.

"I would really like to say a big thankyou to my employers Bolton Arena, Bolton Forum For Sport, Horwich RMI Harriers and Bolton Tri Club for their tremendous help and support."

Sue also completed a great 2003 by winning first lady over 40 in the National Oregon Scientific Grand Prix Tri Series. Sue had competed in Olympic distance races all over the country to deservedly take the National L40 title.

The final race in this season's Red Rose Cross Country League, at Hyndburn, saw the Horwich RMI Harrier ladies win the senior and veteran ladies team categories on the day and for the series.

Leading the way was junior Rachel Thompson who was second lady (first junior lady) on the day and second in the series.

Janet Rashleigh was Horwich's second counter in third, securing third place in the series and first lady over 40. Suzanne Budgett finished fourth (second L40) as she did in the series. Christine Sweatman was first L45 on the day.

First Horwich man was Rob Haworth in sixth (third M40) taking fifth place and second M40 in the series. Tony Hesketh won the M55 category on the day and overall.
