RAILWAY maintenance work will cause delays until February on three Bolton roads, including one of the town's busiest road junctions.

Bridge repair work could cause problems in Turton Road at its junction with Chapeltown Road, Bromley Cross, where there have been delays caused by other roadworks over the past year.

Bolton Council says overnight road closures will be implemented at weekends as maintenance work is done on the railway bridge at the road junction.

The route is used by hundreds of motorists every day as it links Darwen Road and Blackburn with Tonge Moor Road, one of the main roads into Bolton town centre. Although the work will be done at night, council chiefs say major delays are expected.

The scheme is due to run into February. Signposted diversions will be set up while the work is being done.

Turton Road has been plagued by roadworks and disruption over the past year as part of a project to install safety barriers at its junction with Bradshaw Brow.

Engineers are due to work on the bridge today and tomorrow and on January 24, 25 and 31, and on February 1. Work is due to run from 11pm on Saturdays until 6am on Sundays.

The other two roads will be affected by safety barrier repair work on the Bolton to Preston railway line.

Work started in Lostock Lane near Lostock Lane Bridge earlier this week. The project is set to run until early next month and delays are expected.

And work will start in Grimeford Lane, Blackrod, on Monday, January 26, and will last until late February. Again, delays can be expected.

The barriers will be installed along sections of both roads approaching the railway. The work is being done by Bolton Council engineers.
