WANDERERS are confident they can still cash in on Mario Jardel, despite turning down an approach from Spanish club Espanyol.

The Catalan club's bid -- they were reported to have offered £500,000 to take him on loan for the rest of the season -- could be just the first of many after Sam Allardyce revealed he was prepared to let the Brazilian go.

Sources in Spain suggest that, although it has been reported the Espanyol deal collapsed because they demanded he train with them before anything was finalised, Jardel had already lined up a move to another foreign club.

Allardyce would only say: "We are aware of the speculation linking Mario with a number of clubs and I've said all along that we are willing to listen to offers

"We've just had the one offer from Espanyol and we'll have to wait to see if anything else materialises.

"The offer from Espanyol just wasn't right for us. When we get an offer that is right, we'll talk to Mario about it."

Allardyce does not have to sell Jardel to fund his move for new defensive cover but agreed that it would help with other moves ahead of the January 31 deadline, if he could get the former Sporting Lisbon man off his books.
