THE report in the Bolton Evening News (January 10) relating to Cllr David Wilkinson, when he says that Bolton Council should not be spending large sums of money on the Bolton Arena to upgrade its facilities.
He comments that the money should be spent on upgrading the sporting facilities in the Westhoughton area.
I wonder if his Lib Dem colleagues, Cllrs Bob and Barbara Ronson, John Cronnolley and Martin Cox, who live in Horwich and represent the wards of Blackrod and Horwich at Bolton, agree with his views.
It will be interesting what they have to say on this subject, especially Cllr Martin Cox who represents the Blackrod Ward in which the Arena stands. I hope he is going to rebuke Cllr Wilkinson for his outburst and stand up for the area he represents.
I see Cllr Wilkinson supports the building of houses on the Cricket Club land at Westhoughton. At this I am not surprised, there is an election coming up in June.
I say to David, what has happened to the Cllr Wilkinson who has been so outspoken before about housing development in the Westhoughton area, and being opposed to it?
I remember when I sat with him at the Planning Committee how he used to rant on about the area becoming a concrete jungle, and how soon there would be no green places left in the place. Does not the green space of the Cricket Club land matter any more to you?
Do you remember saying how the infrastructure could not stand any more development? Why the change of heart, and now thinking it can?
