IT is obvious to me that most councillors have forgotten who they are and why they are elected.

They represent the wishes of the people; the people are not their subjects. To this end, one must not feel any obligation or intimidation when dealing with these elected representatives. Rather, councillors should listen to their benefactors; we pay their salaries through tax, after all, and they should do as they are told to do. Even councillors only have one vote.

So, if the real decision makers -- the people -- say NO to fluoride, then that is how it should be. A councillor or MP who ignores this in favour of his/her own preference, or for some political gain, should be removed forthwith.
