The survey shows that people in the North have a greater passion for mixing learning with fun.
Northerners top the tables when it comes to recreational learning, with 74 per cent of adult learners over 60 in the North wanting to enrol or find out more about courses ranging from sky-diving and Japanese to yoga and aromatherapy.
That compares to just a quarter of people in the South-west and 52 per cent in London.
