BOLTON under-14s must try again to secure a place in the Greater Manchester School's Talbot Cup after drawing 1-1 with Manchester in Fallowfield on Saturday.

In a bright first-half performance, Bolton took the lead after 10 minutes, when Paul Christie (St James) headed home a Dale Warburton (St Joseph's) corner.

Christie then headed against the bar and Chris McCaughtry hit the post as the visitors dominated the first half at the Armitage Centre.

Manchester bounced back late in the half, but keeper Kieron Edwards (Deane) pulled off two superb saves to keep Bolton in front at the break.

The home side piled on the pressure in the second half. Bolton's back three of Tom Aspen (Thornleigh), Luke Ashworth (Little Lever) and skipper Christie kept Manchester at bay, and man-of-the-match Edwards made a couple of magnificent saves.

But the visiting defence was breached 15 minutes from the end as Manchester forced the ball home to clinch a replay in Bolton next month.

Franklyn caps

Bury fightback

CAPTAIN Liam Franklyn grabbed a late hat-trick as Bury under-15s stormed back from three goals down to beat Rochdale 4-3 in their Greater Manchester Schools' quarter-final clash at the Derby School.

Trailing 3-0 with just eight minutes left, Bury looked down and out, but full back Thomas Jackson (Woodhey) gave them some hope when he reduced the arrears.

Franklyn added their second within two minutes and he forced home the equaliser 60 seconds later.

The game was end to end in a thrilling finale and Franklyn turned up trumps again grabbing his hat trick and the winner just two minutes from time.

Bolton under-15s' County Cup quarter final clash against Stockport at Hillcrest Playing Fields was postponed.
