A SENIOR Nigerian government figure has rounded on Jay-Jay Okocha for delaying his departure for the African Nations Cup.
The country's Sports and Social Development Minister, Col Musa Mohammed, is critical of the Wanderers' skipper and Arsenal striker Kanu, who have elected to play in their respective Carling Cup semi-finals this week before linking up with the Super Eagles ahead of the Tunisia tournament that kicks off on Saturday.
"I must express my displeasure about the inability of some of the selected players to report to camp despite all efforts by the Nigerian FA," he said.
"This has no doubt affected the level of readiness of the team.
"I am particularly referring to those playing in the English Premiership, who up until now have not reported to camp. Next time we should set the standard and give a deadline which will be respected by all players."
Arsenal have confirmed that Kanu would be in the squad for Tuesday night's semi-final first leg against Middlesbrough at Highbury and, although it has not been officially confirmed, Okocha is expected to lead out Wanderers against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
Nigeria will play their first match next Tuesday when they face Morocco in Monastir.
