THE PETITION to close Bradshawgate on weekend nights is more in the interests of pub landlords rather than safety.

Once again it appears the motorists and taxis must take the blame for the tragic death of a teenage reveller by a police car on the way to an incident, the investigation of this accident is still ongoing.

I wonder how many accidents have there been in the last 12 months by cars in Bradshawgate, to warrant the closure at weekends?

How many non-road accidents needing attention at Bolton Accident and Emergency Unit, brought about by excess drinking in the Bradshawgate area?

The observations of some readers on the conduct of these revellers is despicable, urinating and vomiting in shop doorways, leaving the contents for the shop staff to clean up.

All this could be avoided if all the pubs in the Bradshawgate vicinity were closed down at weekends.

Obviously this is not a practical answer, neither is closing the road, because some revellers lose their road sense through excess alcohol sparked off by cheap starters to get the revellers in the mood for action, and the tills jingling.
