ON behalf of Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council, I would like to take the opportunity to extend an invitation to all citizens of the borough to join me at this year's Holocaust Memorial Ceremony which is entitled "From The Holocaust to Rwanda and Beyond"
Since the Holocaust National Remembrance Day was instituted, we have gathered in the Town Hall each year to reflect and remember all those who suffered as a result of ethnic cleansing and other atrocities.
The Vicar of Bolton, Canon Mike Williams, has once again arranged the format of the ceremony and he will be joined this year by Bolton councillors, the Rabbi Joseph Lever and Carol Hayden from the Interfaith Council.
I am very pleased that local schoolchildren will again take part in our Holocaust Ceremony. Pupils from Smithills School will read passages and poems for us. The school choir from St Peter's School in Farnworth will sing Songs of Peace, and Green Fold School pupils will light candles.
The Mayoress and I look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday at the Festival Hall, Town Hall, at 3pm, but in the meantime, if you require any further information about the Ceremony, please contact the Mayor's Office on 01204 331057.
