A BOLTON man who was caught doing more than 30mph over the speed limit has been allowed to keep his licence after persuading magistartes his wife had fallen ill.

Mohamed Jiva, aged 52, of Bridgeman Street, Bolton, could have been banned from driving by Rochdale magistartes after he admitted travelling at 82mph on the M62 at Heywood where a temporary limit of 50mph was in force due to extensive roadworks.

But Jiva produced a doctor's note for his diabetic wife, who was a passenger in his car at the time.and had become ill on route to visit their student daughter in Bradford.

The court accepted there were special reasons in the case not to disqualify him. Instead they added five penalty points to his licence and fined him £100 with £35 costs.
