CHARITY worker Kath Richardson will be braving the cold weather of eastern Europe to help needy families in Romania.
It is well below freezing in Romania and Kath, of Wythburn Avenue, Bolton, hopes the weather will be better by February 14 when she and fellow church member Isobel Marron set off.
"I just don't want the snow so bad that the roads are blocked," she said. "The Romanian families have to survive all winter in these conditions."
Kath and Isobel, who are members of St Peter's Church, Halliwell, will be staying in Romania until February 20. Kath's husband, David will be staying in Bolton to care for their adopted daughter, Madi, who comes from Romania.
While in the town of Barlad, Kath and Isobel will be visiting families who have to huddle together in bed to keep warm. The women will be taking money to buy food and supplies and also hope to take warm hats, gloves, scarves, socks and sweets.
To help raise funds, a coffee morning will be held at the Richardson's home at 1 Wythburn Avenue on Saturday, January 31, from 10am to noon. A quiz night will also be held at the Jolly Crofters pub on Monday, February 2,at 9.30pm.
Anyone who can help with cash or clothing can contact the Richardsons on 01204 841906.
