ONE of the region's top orchestras is to perform at St Michael's High School and will include in their repertoire pieces composed by the pupils themselves.
The Northern Chamber Orchestra is performing tomorrow (Thursday) at 7.30pm following a highly successful concert at the school in November.
Members of the orchestra have been visiting St Michael's to help the pupils with their own compositions and will play a selection of them on the night.
Principal flautist Conrad Marshall, along with three other NCO players, have been helping Year 10 pupils from the school with their own compositions.
Conrad said: "I think it always leaves a lasting impression for children to see their own teacher stand up in a professional situation and demonstrate what they have been trying to teach."
As well as pupils' compositions, the orchestra will perform Schubert's German Dances, Flute Concerto number two by Mozart and Grieg's Lyric Pieces. The evening will close with the Serenade for Strings by Tchaikovsky.
Tickets are £9 for adults, £6 concessions (senior citizens, students, children and unwaged). A family ticket is £30.
They are available from the NCO Box Office on 0161 247 2220 the County Information Centre, 35-39 Market Street on 01257 241693 or from St Michael's C of E High School on 01257 264740. Visitors can also pay on the door.
