HERE was a man who believed in direct action.The caption to this 1952 photograph read:
"The frontage of the prefab 179 Ainsworth Lane, Bolton, was daily littered with used bus tickets before the occupant, Mr J. Elliott (seen above) painted the request on the footpath. Now the bus stop is "clean and tidy." You have to wonder if such a move would have the same effect in these increasingly litter-strewn days.
