IN an entertaining match the Vikings struck first in the fifth minute with a try from Peter Hodson who took advantage of a mix up in the Lynx defence.
Lynx came close to scoring in the tenth minute but lost possession and were made to pay when Tim Holmes touched down with Dave Welsh adding the conversion.
They did get on the score sheet in the 24th minute with a try from Chris Newall followed five minutes later with a try from Gary Smith.
After Widnes had a try disallowed for offside in the 32nd minute, Lynx took full advantage as Gary Smith went over for his second try converted by Rob Smyth.
Three minutes before the break Vikings were back on level terms when Adam Flanagan touched down to make it 14-14 at half-time.
The second half saw both teams struggle for supremacy as the defences looked strong. The deadlock was finally broken in the 57th minute by the Vikings when Adam Flanagan went over for his second try, Dave Welsh adding the conversion.
Lynx again hit back in the 65th minute with a well worked try from Anthony Murray and eight minutes from time looked to have sealed the game with a try from Eddie Kilgannon after good work from Rob Smyth who also added the conversion to give Lynx a four point advantage.
Right on the final hooter, though, a long pass found Lynx's defence wanting and Anthony Kirkham was on hand to touch down to level up the scores.
It was then left to Dave Welsh with the final kick of the game to slot over the conversion to give the Vikings youngsters a narrow victory.
