I WISH to respond to the article of November 19 regarding our Euro-supporting Labour Council and its director of finance George Graham .
The council has no right to spend our money on preparing for an event that still needs to be ratified by a referendum and may, therefore, not happen if the public have any sense.
From my experiences in Europe, before and after the Euro, I can state that within days of launch our expenditure rose by 20 per cent and in some cases 100 per cent.
In Greece, an average price of coffee was £1 and on conversion become £2.08. Only one or two of our European friends wanted the Euro and now are most bitter at the staggering increase in their cost of living against meagre, if any increases in their income.
I shall be voting against the Euro in the referendum and I would recommend every voter regardless of political persuasion to do the same. We don't want overnight increases in the cost of living and can do without the Euro. The question seems to be, does Mr Blair really want a referendum and more importantly intends to hold one? Perhaps our MP Mr Hoyle could ask Tony Blair in the House if there is any truth in the rumour that our Euro notes and coins are already printed and minted in readiness.
There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and we don't want any Euros of mass destruction in our economy.
