IT has been reported that guards at Guatanamo Bay are racially abusing inmates. Amnesty International said that such abuse, if true, would be "totally unacceptable and alarming".
What a contrast to a Japanese prison camp where a British POW had his tongue slit for talking after lights out, and, when it began to heal, they slit it again and put salt on the wound so that it never healed. He never spoke again for the rest of his life, although in fact he did survive and returned to England at the end of the war.
