From the Evening News, January 23, 1904: A large and influential deputation of the Wirral Liberal Association waited, yesterday, upon Mr W. H. Lever at the Liverpool Reform Club, Dale Street.

They presented to him a requisition, signed by 1,381 voters, urging him to become the Liberal candidate for Wirral Division at the next general election. Mr T. Clarke (Chairman of the Association) said Mr Lever stood for all that was most precious to them in the principles of Liberalism and he was a man of integrity and true Liberal instinct. (Applause). Mr Lever was greeted with cheers on rising to respond. He said he did not think he would be human if he did not feel deeply the mark of their confidence. He said that he would like to consider the strength of his and their position and leave the matter over for consideration and reply definitely to the requisition before sailing for America. (Loud applause).

From the Evening News, January 23, 1954: IT will be no surprise to many people that Mr W. E. Brown, senior history master at Bolton School, is engaged on yet another historical project. He is at present collecting material about the school and its history and, if the amount of information about the school warrants it, a booklet on the subject may be published. Mr Brown, who was educated in Toronto and later took an MA degree at Birmingham University, has much valuable experience in the collating of historical facts and documents to form an overall picture of a historical era or period.
