BOLTON presenter Vernon Kay is set to monopolise our TV screens from next week when his two new shows are launched.

But even though his career has taken off in London, where he now lives, he remains a Bolton boy at heart.

The 29-year-old star has revealed that when he and wife Tess Daly have children -- something they are planning soon -- he wants them to grow up in Bolton.

"I don't want Cockney kids," said Vernon. "Our kids are going to live up North, where everyone's really nice and friendly, where everyone's got manners, where everyone knows the words please and thank you.

"In London, everyone fights for themselves. They don't even look at each other on the Tube. There's no community.

"I miss going into a newsagent's and the guy behind the counter knowing my name."

Vernon already has his eye on a house in Bolton, just a 40-minute car ride from Stockport, where his in-laws live.

"We're thinking about moving and having kids in a few years - I want loads, as many as she'll let me have. It'll be nice for our kids to be near their grandparents," he said.

Following their low-key wedding at St Mary's in Horwich in September, the couple headed to America for a three-week honeymoon, where they toured the west coast in a hired pick-up truck.

But they were back in Bolton for Christmas with his parents in Lostock.

"It was great. Mum cooked turkey and I got a whole lot of loving from Tess, family and friends," he said.

Back at work, Vernon has been surrounded by pop culture. He has been in LA filming a new 10-part entertainment TV series, The Grill, about obsessions across The Pond.

And his presenter wife is hosting a new reality TV show with former wannabe winners and rejects from shows such as Big Brother and Survivor in the spring.

Vernon has also finished filming A Wife For William, a six-part series that aims to find a suitable queen for the future King of England.

"Everybody pays attention to what Princes William and Harry are up to.

"William is an icon for the world because of his mother. Everybody is curious as to who he goes out with.

"I feel sorry for the Princes. So what if they like a drink or a cigarette? It doesn't bother me. They're just two young lads wanting to enjoy themselves. They've got a lot on their young shoulders," he said.

"I'll get them round my flat for a game of pool, take them down the local for a pint. I'd love to go out with them for a drink.

But his ambitions don't end there. Vernon has a 10-year plan worked out, starting with taking the job of hosting ITV1's Family Fortunes from Andy Collins.

"He'd better watch his back," Vernon said. "Because I see my career as a graph going upwards. My ultimate goal is to do a cabaret or game show. Get the family back in front of the telly again.

"If I use the experience I've got, by the time I'm 40, I'll be bringing back TV variety shows like Live At The London Palladium."

The Grill is on T4 from Sunday, February 1 on CH4. A Wife For William is on E4 from Thursday, February 5.
