TAMESIDE, who went top of the Bolton Table Tennis Premier Division last week, suffered a crushing 9-0 defeat on their visit to Wharton, allowing Rammy A to regain top spot on the strength of their 6-3 win at Lostock.

Steve Stringer won the three Lostock sets, which is the first time all three Rammy players have been beaten in a match this season. Bill Russell and Harry Brennand won three apiece for Horwich Hilton who beat lowly Nomads 8-1, as did Ron Durose and Graham Jeffries for Little Lever, who beat Hilton B by the same scoreline.

Nigel Hallows trebled for Rammy B in their 6-3 win over Mosses but Dave Griffiths was on the losing side despite his treble against Cricketers.

Division One leaders Ladybridge A scraped a 5-4 win at Hilton C thanks to three wins by Alex Waring.

Mosses B in second spot won by the same score at Little Lever C, Roy Costello scoring three wins for Little Lever. Paul Ward trebled for Heaton A who were beaten by Wingates 5-4 and Wharton B ran out 6-3 winners at Heaton B which included three wins by Duncan Hadfield.

Mike Heaton trebled for Division Two Leaders BEN A who won 5-4 at Little Lever while Heaton C lost second spot after losing 5-4 at Hilton C, this was despite three wins by Top Ten leader Steve Barber. Meadow Hill A scored maximum points against Halliwell Meths to jump into second place with a one point advantage over Heaton C. Three wins apiece by John Cartlege and Dennis Hugh for Ladybridge and Jim Higham and Brian Lowden for Rushtons, both teams winning their matches with an 8-1 scoreline.

Only one point separates the two top teams in Division Three. Leaders Rammy C scraped home 5-4 in a very close match at Hilton G, while Hilton E in second spot won 6-3 at Ladybridge C with Top Ten leader Siful Kahan scoring his usual three wins. Trebles recorded by Paul Jackson for Ellesmere who lost 5-4 at Farnworth, Roger Bertrand for Hilton F who beat Heaton F 7-2, and Alan Bradshaw for Hilton H who won 7-2 at Bolton YMCA.

No change at the top of Division Four with the top two teams not playing, BEN B in third place closed the gap to two points following their maximum points win at bottom team Irlam. Three wins by Reena Ardeshana and two apiece by Sparkle Munroe and Jack Butler gave the Tonge juniors their second win of the season, beating Ladybridge E 7-2. Colin Roberts score three wins for Heaton G in their 6-3 against Jubilee.

The number of matches being cancelled has increased over the past two weeks, the teams involved are reminded that these have to be played within 14 days.
