A CONSUMER watchdog for water supplies says customer debt is increasing massively each year.
Watervoice North West, which represents people receiving water and sewerage services from United Utilities, is meeting the company to discuss how the issue will be handled.
Watervoice regional manager Andrew White said debt had become a "huge cause for concern".
"Customer debt is a vicious circle, as increasing debt causes increasing bills," he said. "This is our opportunity to call the company into account over what they plan to do about it."
"We have tried to solve the problem since it began rising in 1998, both in the amount outstanding and the cost of collecting debt.
"It is a trend which is worrying because customers end up paying increased costs for those who cannot pay their bills."
The watchdog has also requested an update on the region's water resource situation and a review of United Utilities' website facilities.
