A BOLTON School pupil is aiming to raise thousands of pounds for a children's charity by running the London Marathon.
Anushka Patchava, aged 18, is hoping businesses and local people will step forward to sponsor her when she takes part in the gruelling 26.2 mile run around the streets of London on April 18, to raise money for Barnardo's.
The Heaton teenager would like to raise £2,500 for the charity which works with children around the country who suffer from poverty, homelessness and disability.
Anushka, who will be one of the marathon's youngest runners, said: "I want to do the marathon because up until last year I was at boarding school in London so it will be nice to go back to the city.
"Also, Bolton School and my old school have done a lot of things to help Barnardo's so I feel that I already have a link with the charity."
Anushka joked that her brother was partly responsible for her decision to run, as he completed the marathon last year and teased her that she would not be able to match him.
The A level student is confident that she will be able to complete the marathon as she keeps fit by playing for the county hockey squad.
She has already raised £1,500 in sponsorship.
Anushka is currently studying A levels in biology, chemistry, maths, psychology and general studies. Anyone who would like to sponsor her can ring Anushka on 07830 202285.
