But the Premier Division side had to work hard to beat their First Division opponents.

It was more straightforward for Tonge Moor Con Club, who beat Pied Piper 9-0 thanks to hat-tricks from McLoughlin and Howarth, two goals from Hilton and one from Wilcox.
Fox and Stork beat Greenfield 4-1 at Mill Street, with Russell scoring two and Foster and Plano one each.
Horwich Vic secured their second-round place by beating Bowling Green 3-1 in an all-Premier clash, while Smithills sprung a surprise by beating Arkwrights 2-0 in the other first-round tie.
