MOTORISTS who drive while holding a mobile phone will be fined by police in Greater Manchester as the two-month grace period comes to an end.
Drivers in Bolton and across the rest of the county will be handed £30 fines. If the matter goes to court, people can face a £1,000 penalty.
The new law making it illegal to hold a mobile phone while driving came into effect on December 1, 2003, but Greater Manchester Police gave a two-month grace period.
This was to give motorists a chance to familiarise themselves with the new law and get equipped with the right hands-free product.
From Sunday, that period comes to an end.
