OWEN Hargreaves is determined to play in the Premiership one day but has ruled out following in his father's footsteps and playing for Bolton Wanderers.

The England midfielder -- still a key player in the Bayern Munich team -- takes special interest in Wanderers and is delighted to see them making a name for themselves in the top flight.

But, if he does achieve his ambition of playing in England, Champions League football will be his minimum requirement, which effectively puts the Reebok out of the reckoning, for the time being at least.

"I want to play in the Premiership but, if I do come to England, I want to play at the top," he said this week.

"And that means the Champions League. It's good to see Bolton doing well, though."

Hargreaves' father Colin was born in Bolton and was on Wanderers' books as a junior before emigrating to Canada, where Owen was born.
