JUSSI Jaaskelainen has urged Sam Allardyce to drop his plan to give Donovan Ricketts a taste of the Premiership action.

The Reebok keeper has set his heart on completing his second full season as an ever-present in Saturday's final league game against Fulham and does not want anyone ending his run - not even for five minutes.

"It's my job and I want to keep my place," the Finland international said.

But Allardyce is anxious to see how Ricketts copes under Premiership pressure before deciding whether to ofrfer him a contract this summer.

The giant Jamaican joined Wanderers on loan from Village United in January but the nearest he has come to first team football is a place on the subs' bench for the recent game at Southampton.

The manager has been saying for some time that he may give Ricketts a run-out, provided it did not affect Wanderers' bid to finish as high in the table as possible, and Saturday could offer him his big chance.

Currently seventh, Wanderers could finish as high as sixth, depending on Newcastle's last two results, and can certainly finish no lower than eighth. But there is the incentive of an additional £500,000 in merit money for each position, plus the achievement of finishing the season with a sixth successive top flight win, which they have not managed since 1911-12.

Jaaskelainen, who has only been rested for cup ties over the past two seasons and is one of only seven Premiership players to play in every minute of every game this season, is in no mood to budge.

"It does matter to me," he said, "even for five minutes.

"It's the gaffer's decision but, hopefully, if I'm not injured, I'll play the full game.

"I've been playing for two years on the trot now and there's no way I want someone else coming in and doing my job and picking my wages up."

Jaaskelainen, who came to the Reebok in 1997 from VPS Vaasa in Finland, has missed only four league games since Wanderers returned to the Premiership but refuses to take his position for granted.
