TWO Bolton accountancy firms have merged. CLB Chartered Accountants, based in Wood Street, has merged with SWS Group, which has its headquarters in Chorley New Road.

A national player with 19 partners and 170 fee earners, CLB approached SWS three months ago with a view to combining the firms.

Mark Worsley, formerly of SWS but now CLB's new Bolton office managing partner, is looking forward to the new opportunities that the merger will bring.

"CLB is a dynamic firm with a clear direction and an excellent infrastructure in place. Following detailed discussions with CLB partners, a positive match of core values and client service principles were identified."

SWS joined forces with CLB's existing Bolton team yesterday, creating a Bolton team with five partners and 30 staff.

David Travis, CLB's regional managing partner, said the merger would allow the new company, under the CLB name, to strengthen its presence in the small and medium enterprise and owner-managed market throughout the region.

Mr Worsley said that an "amalgamation of the existing Bolton offices" is the plan.

The Bolton Evening News understands that this will mean staff in the Wood Street office moving to the larger Laurel House in Chorley New Road.
