SPEEDING drivers have been caught by police using mobile speed cameras, following complaints from residents.

Police have spent the last two weeks monitoring 13 roads in Bolton and Bury, which were identified by residents as being speeding hot-spots.

Each road was monitored for one day during the operation, which ran from June 21 and finished last week.

Police parked in a marked van pointed a tripod-mounted camera at motorists, and those caught faced fines and penalty points on their licences.

Police chiefs will release figures next week.

Insp Brian Wood, Force Road Safety Officer, said: "The operation has been well supported by residents and Bolton Council, who have identified particular roads which they felt posed particular problems.

"We are in the process of compiling information on the number of offenders who have been caught speeding."

Insp Wood warned motorists that they would continue to clamp down on speeding motorists.

He said: "The operation may have finished but we are determined to catch motorists who speed on roads across Bolton and Greater Manchester."
