MORE than 1,000 young people are expected to take part in Bolton Lads and Girls Club's event to help Sport Relief this weekend.
They will be aiming to do a mile in any way they choose as part of the borough's contribution to the BBC's national charity event.
Sport Relief raised £14.4 million when it was launched in 2002 by the same people who created Comic Relief.
Now in its second year, organisers hope even more people will "go the extra mile" on Saturday, raising cash to help tackle poverty in Britain and the rest of the world.
In Bolton, people will be completing their mile in many ways, from running, cycling and rowing, to skipping, dribbling a football and bouncing a basketball.
There is also the Peter Kay Mile - a wheelchair-friendly, mile-long course around Bolton's Queen's Park suitable for all ages.
Jeremy Glover, Lads and Girls Club chief executive, said: "We are renowned for our commitment to making sport accessible to all young people, and Sport Relief provides an opportunity for our members to give something back while having fun.
"It also enables the community to come and see what the club has to offer. We are urging families and businesses to sign up as individuals or teams, get sponsored and get down to the club on Saturday."
Anyone interested in joining the club's event can register for £1 by calling 08712 444411, visiting www.sportrelief.com.
They can also call at the club or phoning it on 01204 540100.
