AN elderly couple were left with minor head injuries after a road rage incident involving a bus and a car.

The 80-year-old woman and 85-year-old man were travelling on a bus along Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge, towards the town centre yesterday when a Vauxhall Nova pulled in front of it.

Police say the car failed to stop at the lights at the junction with Waters Meeting Road and the bus driver sounded his horn at the car.

Around 100 yards along Blackburn Road, the Nova is reported to have slammed its brakes on, causing the bus to do the same.

The elderly couple were thrown from their seats and suffered cuts to their heads. The female passenger also hurt her leg.

They were both taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital and released after treatment.

Traffic Police have interviewed the bus driver and the remaining passengers on the bus.

They are now appealing for any pedestrians or motorists who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Officers would also like to speak to the driver of the Nova to obtain his version of what happened.

PC Alan Southern of the Road Policing Unit said: "The elderly couple were just innocent people travelling on a bus, going about their daily business. Although the injuries were not serious, it could have been more serious because of their age."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 0161 856 7273.
