MAY I wish the residents of Somerton Road every success in having a lamppost removed (Bolton Evening News, July 2), as here in Ladybridge we have a great number of old and out-of-use lamp standards we would like to see removed.
New lights were installed many months ago, a process which involved a small army of workmen, and which, in spite of many questions being asked, the work remains incomplete.
We have numerous old posts yet to be removed (they only try this work at weekends), and give up when they cannot get them out.
The footpaths are a disgrace, as the vast number of trenches dug have yet to be made good, and we have dangerous ruts and holes which require attention before someone breaks an ankle.
We even have one new standard positioned in the middle of the footpath - how a wheelchair would get past I don't know, it's bad enough dodging it on foot.
Please, if the work cannot be completed, will someone tell us the reason.
My last question on this matter to the Area Forum remains unanswered, so, who knows, perhaps the power of the press will succeed where all else has failed.
