PUPILS will be building a giant tetrahedron - a 12 sided object - that will fill their entire school hall, as part of teambuilding transition activities.

The Giant Tetrahedron Activity is just one of the activities that is taking place at Harrop Fold High School, Little Hulton, to help Year Nine pupils adjust to their transition from Lower School to Upper School. Led by the Salford Business Education Partnership for the Hulton Education Action Zone, the project is designed to get pupils working together to achieve a common goal.

Pupils start by building small tetrahedrons and then checking each others' work, before putting them together to build larger and larger structures, finishing with the giant tetrahedron. Steve Ormandy, Hulton EAZ co-ordinator for the Salford BEP said: "The purpose of the activity is to show pupils that working together is an important skill to develop as nobody works completely independently once they leave school."

"This activity shows pupils that no matter how perfect their tetrahedron is, if everyone else's is poorly constructed, the overall structure will fail.

"Teamwork is a highly desirable skill that all employers look for when recruiting, so we at the Salford BEP feel that it is an important skill to develop when still at school."
