Bolton Sports Federation - Mixed League: HOLCOMBE Brook A stay top of Division One of the Mixed League after beating relegation-threatened Hawkshaw B without dropping a set.
In Division Two, Bradshaw A are holding on to top position, this time with a win over third from bottom Longsight Meths' A in a closely fought match.
Bradshaw maintain a clear lead with 14 points and no losses. They are now looking serious contenders for a place in Division One next year.
At the bottom of the table Bolton Cricket Club are struggling without a win so far this year and time is running out.
In Division Three, David Lloyd's worthy A team are making every effort to maintain their lead, this time with a very decisive win over Lostock C. David Lloyd have certainly proved their ability at this level and are making steady progress towards promotion to Division Two next season.
Lower in the
table are Lostock C and Holcombe Brook B; both clubs finding this year's
competition tough and valued points hard to come by.
Division Four leaders, Markland Hill E, scored yet another victory, this time over Bolton School, to secure 14 points in their unblemished record of wins this year. This quality squad is led by several youngsters with excellent ability around the court and, in this form, they have to be favourites for promotion. At the other end of the table, Bolton School are finding life in Division Four very difficult and are still looking to secure their first points of the season; with several players absent with injury, it seems a hard task to stay in this Division.
Heading Divisions Five and Six respectively are David Lloyd's B and C teams. Both squads are consistently turning out strong teams in a bid for promotion to higher divisions and it seems their combination of quality players is proving too tough for some of the opposition in these divisions.
The second round of the Mixed League Cecil Cup competition was played on
Sunday June 20 with all eight matches completed successfully. David Lloyd A moved swiftly to the next round, defeating Hawkshaw A without being troubled. The new handicap system meant that the other matches were contended more closely with clubs such as Walkers, Walmer B and Lostock C all moving into the third round.
