Horwich RMI Harrier Tony Hesketh left many younger runners trailing in last weekend's Triple T Challenge at Wharfedale in Yorkshire.
The event, held over three days, is named Triple T because it involves races over tarmac, tussock and trail.
On Friday Tony finished 12th (first veteran) in the three-mile uphill road race in a time of 20.10. Brenda Hesketh was first lady over-45 in 29.12.
On Saturday came the tough 12.5-mile fell race with approximately 2,000ft of ascent and involving the added difficulty of navigation. Tony finished a superb third in 1.42.54 (first veteran aged over-50).
The final race on Sunday was the two-mile trail event in which Tony finished 12th (first veteran aged over-50) in 15.34.
At the end of the three events Tony finished a terrific third overall on 27 points.
Last Tuesday's Rochdale 10km road race, part of the Sweatshop Challenge, saw Rob Jackson have a great run to finish third in 34.02. The tough, undulating course meant all race times were comparatively slow.
Rob Haworth was 10th (third over-45) while Karen Hutchinson was first lady and first over-35 in 51st (40.06). Rob's super third place leaves him leading the eight-race Challenge with five races completed.
The following evening saw Paul Roby put in another top class performance at the Chorley Four-Mile road race, finishing fifth in 20mins 40secs. This consolidated his series lead after three races.
Horwich won the team award on the night with Paul well backed up by Colin Rigby in seventh, Adrian Selby 12th and new member Steve Duckworth 19th (second over-40).
This win strengthened Horwich's position as leaders in the men's team standings for the series.
Lisa Heyes finished second lady, just three seconds behind Wigan's Jane Raffell. Linda Leyland (over-45) and Dennis Weir (over-65) both ran well to finish second in their categories.
