TOWN twinning is a popular concept in Bolton and many local people have made the trip over the years to Paderborn in Germany and Le Mans in France.
This picture shows a group from Bolton YMCA which went to Paderborn in July, 1983.
Led by Tony Robinson and Malcolm Craven, a party of young people travelled on the Bolton Jubilee Bus, staying at private homes in nearby Detmold.
The group was able to exchange ideas on how to help unemployed young people.
The story accompanying our picture read: "Paderborn, surprisingly enough, has more than 10 per cent of its young people out of work and the Bolton party was able to explain about their home town's situation, with 18 per cent unemployment."
Plans for future exchanges in sport and culture were also examined.
