THE Senior 5K Multi-Terrain Race in the Adidas/On the Run Park Series at Astley Park saw two runners lead half way into the second circuit through the woods, with both Tony Rowlands of Horwich, and Scott Monk of Blackburn Harriers running shoulder to shoulder.

However, it was the Horwich man who used the long run in to win by four seconds in a time of 16 mins 49 secs.

Local runners Keith Johnston (Chorley Harriers) and Carl Holding (Chorley Athletic Club) finished in sixth and ninth place respectively.

The female race saw two Chorley based athletes running for Horwich take first and third place respectively with Katie Ingram finishing ahead of team-mate Vicki Snape, in a time of 19 mins 54 seconds.

Stephen Fletcher (Chorley AC) was first Vet/55, with Gwen Farnworth (Chorley Harriers) first female Vet/40, and Janet Pound (Chorley AC) first female Vet/45

History was made in the Junior Race One mile Multi-Terrain race when Alison Leonard from Chorley Harriers came home first female and first overall in a time of 6 mins 14 secs.

She was made to work very hard for this accolade by team-mate James McIve, and Blackburn Harrier Rachel Searson, finishing in second and third places.
