CHORLEY Lynx are in a play-off position after a hard earned victory over the fast improving London Skolars although Lynx coach Mark Lee insists his side can play better.
Lynx were far from their best in this match and only made the game safe 11 minutes from time with a fine interception try from Jamie Stenhouse.
Mark Lee said: "I am glad for the victory but I think we will play better than this and lose in future.
"Although the interception try gave us some breathing space I always felt we had enough to win the game.
"With a week off following the Swinton game and only light sessions this week I thought the lads would come out and hit the straps but they didn't and maybe we were too anxious after two narrow defeats."
Lynx made all the early running and were soon rewarded with a try from Mick Redford and a penalty from Brian Capewell. It was then Lynx's turn to fall foul of the referee as the Skolars opened their account with a penalty from Kurt Pittman.
This gave the Skolars renewed confidence and Mark Cantoni scored a well worked try.
Lynx came close when Capewell lost the ball as he reached out to touch down and they took the lead again in the 31st minute with a try from Chris Newall. This was after an intended grubber kick from Martin Gambles had hit a Skolars player and dropped into his arms. Jake Johnson added the conversion.
The Skolars had the last word of the half when Joel Osborn slotted over a penalty to leave Lynx with a 12-8 half time advantage. Lynx were almost caught out after the break but Lee Paterson was on hand to hack the ball over the dead ball line. And from the resulting drop out Joel Osborn was on the end of a flowing move to bring the scores level.
Lynx regained the advantage with two tries in five minutes from Mick Redford and Andy Grundy both converted by Brian Capewell to give them a 12 point lead.
But the Skolars refused to lie down and reduced the arrears with a try and conversion to leave them just six points adrift.
Lynx sealed the game in the 69th minute with a fine interception try from Jamie Stenhouse who went nearly the full length of the field to score, converted by Capewell.
Skolars then had Alex Smits sin binned and Capewell scored the resulting penalty made the game safe for Lynx. Man of the match for Lynx was Danny Barton. Lynx visit Sheffield Eagles on Sunday.
Final score: Chorley Lynx 32 London Skolars 18
