A "JAILBREAK" in Bolton town centre will be the centrepiece of a fundraising event to raise money for young wheelchair users.

A cage will be assembled in Victoria Square to hold 10 "prisoners" who will use mobile phones to call friends and colleagues to raise £1,000 each in pledges for national children's charity Whizz-Kidz.

The inmates, made up of business directors and managers from across the town, will have three hours to raise the money in the event on July 20 - and secure their release.

The event is the brainchild of Bury resident and director of Corlett Electrical Stephen Marley.

He said: "I hope this challenge will raise a lot of money for what is an incredibly worthwhile cause.

"More often than not, the only thing stopping disabled children from being independent is a lack of the right mobility equipment.

"The Breakout Challenge reflects the restrictions faced by thousands of children in their everyday lives, but it also demonstrates how raising vital funds can help change this."

Success in the challenge will bring freedom not only to the "prisoners", but the children that Whizz-Kidz supports.

The charity helps to provide customised mobility equipment, wheelchair training and advice and campaigns to raise awareness of the needs of disabled people.

Stephen will up the ante in October this year when he tackles Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of the charity.
