ON a rain affected Saturday with the goodwill of all the competitors, matches were played on the hardcourts.

One of the first results in was a Ladies Handicap match between Ilona Kilburn and Susan McClelland from Longsight, and J Adelman and J Ball from Markland Hill. The match ebb and flowed but Longsight's top ladies won 6-2, 6-2.

Due to the rain the shale courts could not be used, so very kindly one of our advertisers, David Lloyd Leisure, offered their outside courts for matches.

Several matches took place, one of these was a Handicap Mixed Doubles between Caroline Pyatt and Mike Schofield against Ilona Kilburn and David Gregory, and proving the Handicapping Committee right, the match went to three sets. All three sets were keenly contested, with the deciding set going to Caroline and Mike, in a very sporting match.

Having just finished this match David Gregory then had to go back on court to play a Handicap Men's Doubles against Graham Edginton and his son James. Getting a point start every game against Lister and Gregory, the match ebb and flowed with cross court rallies and deft volleys, but in the end the pairing of Gregory and Lister won 6-4, 6-2.
