THE father of all awareness days returned to Chorley.

More than 40 organisations and hundreds of people flocked to the Flat Iron car park on Sunday for the borough's second popular DAD -- Disability Awareness Day.

There were exhibitions, sports displays from the Chorley Wildcats Disability Sports Club and entertainment. One of the highlights was the "head to head" which saw the Mayor of Chorley, Councillor Danny Gee race Lord Hoyle of Warrington on Shopmobility scooters, which was a dead heat. Cath Hoyle, Chorley Borough Council's executive member for life and leisure, said it was a fun event which had a serious side.

"The race between the mayor and Lord Hoyle summed up the whole occasion, lots of fun.

"However, there was also a series side to DAD, to try and raise people's awareness of disability issues and heighten the profile of local organisations involved in the field. I believe the day did just that and much, much more.

The Best Stall competition was won by Chorley and South Ribble Homestart who scooped a portable CD player donated by Comet.
