A DAIRY is inviting families to join in with the fun and frolics that are taking place on its farm during the school holidays.
Littletown Dairy at Longridge, Preston, will open its doors, free of charge, to the public on Wednesday, August 4. Attractions include a bouncy castle, trampoline, tractor rides, a nature walk and the chance to see real farmyard animals.
Managing director of Littletown Dairy, Eileen Forshaw, organises the event with the help of organisations like the National Farmers' Union and Lancashire Rural Futures (formerly the Bowland Initiative). Last year, approximately 1,500 attended the event which Eileen thinks is remarkable.
"This is an ideal opportunity for families to come and see a working farm in action completely free of charge," said Eileen.
"It's nice when people without any farming knowledge come and see things like the baby calves, possibly for the first time in their lives. To see the amazement on the childrens' faces as they walk around the farm is fantastic. And there's something for mum and dad to do as well.
"Why not try some ostrich meat or sample various cheeses and yoghurts. There's even a chance for you to try the best of this area's beef, pork and lamb at the open day's barbecue. The meat will be courtesy of top producers Bowland Meats and Littletown Farm Shop."
The event will take place between 10am and 4pm. Admission to Littletown Dairy Open Day and parking is free.
