A GREAT grandmother who scooped £2.3 million on the Lotto picked up her dream car - a Nissan Micra.

Eileen Williams, from Leigh, saw her six lucky numbers come up only days after she retired as a care worker.

And at the weekend she celebrated by buying a gold five-door Nissan Micra costing £10,000.

Mrs Williams, aged 60, passed her driving test five years ago and, despite buying a bungalow with her winnings, she was more excited about swopping her H-registered Fiesta for a new car.

She said: "My daughter had got a new Micra a few months ago and I really liked it. It's a nice handy size for me because I only need a little runabout.

"My old car is ready for the scrapyard and this car has all the mod-cons. I've been looking forward to picking it up for months.

"My life has not changed too much in the last few months, although we have moved house. It's just nice to have that security in retirement."

Mrs Williams was expecting to spend her retirement living on around £150 per week with husband Brian, and her 80-year-old mother, in the family's terrace house.

But now she has bought a bungalow, still in Leigh, and is about to take the family on holiday to Benidorm, Spain.

Daughter Dawn Taylor said: "She's had two cars since passing her test but they have been really old. She couldn't wait to pick this car up and was far more excited about getting a new car than the house. All she's ever wanted was a new car."

Mrs Williams bought the car from Firsway Nissan on Plank Lane, Leigh.

Sales executive Bernard Magee said: "I knew Eileen would want a Micra right away because she really liked her daughter's. I knew that she wouldn't change her mind and go for a more expensive car."

In April, Mrs Williams retired from her job as a three nights a week care assistant at Hourigan House residential care home, in Leigh. She won the Lotto on May 1.

She has shared her win with children, Mark, aged 42, and Dawn, aged 40, her grandchildren, Stephen, aged 22, Lisa, aged 21, Rachel, aged 14, Stephanie, aged 13, Anthony, aged 10, and great-grandchildren Dylan, aged two, 12-month-old Devon, and seven-month-old Lauren.

Mrs Williams watched her lottery win live on television when her six numbers 5, 6, 10, 15, 27 and 49 were drawn, earning her £2,386,386. She shared the £4.6m jackpot with another winner.
