HAVE the skateboarders been forgotten about? It appeared that the ball had finally started rolling and that maybe a place for skaters to go was being considered.
Now we are back to square one. Fines of £500 for anyone caught skateboarding in the town. Where will this get anyone? The answer is nowhere.
This will not stop the skaters for long, it will only cause another uproar.
Skaters are enraged.
It is said that we are "dangerous" and "cause damage". If you take a good look at skaters in town, you will see that they have respect for shoppers and do not skate in the Town Hall Square during hours where shops are open, therefore causing no danger or intimidation.
People with prams and buggies cause more danger than skaters during the day.
Where is this damage? The only damage that can been seen on the Town Hall steps is that of litter and graffiti.
Why don't councillors talk to the skaters in the town and try and solve this situation logically? Look at our point of view.
They are making decent, young, respectable people rebellious.
Any intelligent person can see that skaters in the town are going to stand their ground and, most probably, get punished for this.
There are other ways to sort a matter such as this. The way it is being followed through is not one of intelligence or effectiveness. There are two sides to every story.
