I AM writing regarding what the council have been doing over the past few weeks by fining anyone who drops litter in the Square.
They may be paying attention to the Square, but what about the streets around it? They matter as much as the Square does.
As you are probably aware, there is a church on Knowsley Street called Bolton Methodist Mission (Victoria Hall). Round the back near Poundstretcher is a car park and there is a back entrance to the church which is used a lot. On Sunday (July 4), I was going into the church at the back and there was loads of rubbish surrounding the entrance and in the staff car park. There were bottle tops all over the floor.
You would have thought that the council would make sure that the streets were clean as well as the Square.
People should be more careful where they put their litter. For all we know, there could be broken glass, and if someone fell then they would get cut and have glass in them. Also, it doesn't look very nice, and it makes the church look dirty and scruffy as if it was an unused building, which it is not.
As to the issue of people not being allowed to feed pigeons as it may attract rats, it is utter nonsense. The pigeons may not eat the food they are given straight away, but by the end of the day the food will be gone. They clean up the streets of food.
Some of us may not like pigeons because they are dirty, but they are useful because they help to clean up any food that is dropped on the floor. They are like mini vacuum cleaners.
Surely the council can do something to make our streets cleaner?
