PROPOSALS to install crimebusting CCTV cameras in Little Lever have hit a stumbling block because some traders are reluctant to contribute to the cost.
Businesses joined forces to plan the new surveillance system.
As a deterrent to criminals and troublemakers, shops and other businesses want to buy five cameras that will provide digitally recorded images - but it has proved difficult raising the £5,000 needed.
Retailers initially approached Bolton Council for CCTV funding, but their figure of £10,000 was considered too expensive.
They decided to go ahead themselves with a cheaper plan.
Businessman Geoff Shepherd called for more traders to get behind the scheme. But he admitted: "It's difficult to persuade traders to contribute who will not be in the proposed CCTV in the Market Street area."
As part of the efforts to reduce vandalism and anti-social behaviour, a "businesswatch" scheme has been running for three months in Little Lever. And retailers are keen for action, too, to curb the problem of adults buying alcohol for youngsters. Mr Shepherd said: "We need find something for the kids to do."
